Let Us Remember D-Day (and little-known WWII stories)

I realized when I saw “D-Day” on my calendar today, that I never learned much about this historical day which turned the tide of World War II.  So I embarked on some research which spiraled in several directions…

I personally have a deep connection to WWII and have done lots of research on Nazi Germany over the years, which led me to discovering the Catholic martyr, Fr. Alfred Delp.  My father, named Joseph, was almost killed by a shrapnel bomb, as a recruit of the “Seabees”.   I think he was performing an operation, disengaging these land mines, when this happened. I remember the horrifying scars on his back.  I remember the dramatic blue and red tattoo on his arm.  I remember his Navy hat in the hallway closet.

The Seabees (cleverly taken from “CB,” Construction Battalion) were Navy soldier engineers/builders/craftsmen, formed specifically for WWII and its unique challenges (they would also conduct clean-up in destroyed areas).  The USA needed to establish infrastructure around the world and these were the highly qualified men to do it.  Not only did they have to build, but build as covertly as possible.  Many of these guys were both tough and intellectual, knowing how to wield a gun while doing calculus in their heads!  Those who knew my father would laugh, as this is exactly who he was, perfect for the job, a macho Sicilian from Brooklyn who went on to design machines for factories.  Apparently, he was recruited as an electrical engineering student of the Illinois Institute of Technology (this is what I have gleaned, as he passed when I was very young).

My father told the story of a little-known suicide mission in the Philippines, undertaken by his courageous fellow Seabees.  If he had volunteered himself, you would not be reading these words.  This was one war story which seemed to imprint itself indelibly upon his heart.  And this may be the first time it has ever publicly been told.  I won’t be able to get the technicalities right, so I won’t try.  It was an effort to disrupt Japanese communication systems, which were electrically dependent.  The engineer had to go into an electrical box and blow it up, dying in the process.

Here is a recent article honoring the Seabees, which are still in existence and also played a role in the D-Day invasion.  Today, they do all the same work, only it’s more high-tech and they also are called to help after natural disasters…

“From erecting entire bases in the jungles of Vietnam to constructing floating causeways for D-Day landings, the Seabees have pulled off some of the most audacious engineering feats in military history. Their work has enabled some of the most crucial missions in modern warfare…Beyond the battlefield, former Seabees have gone on to revolutionize the civilian construction industry, carrying their skills and discipline into the world of infrastructure development. Despite their vital role, the Seabees often remain in the shadows of military history. Their contributions deserve more recognition, as they are the foundation—literally—of countless military victories. The Seabee ethos is one of resilience, innovation, and determination.”

Moving on to another story, my father’s brother, Uncle Sal, was one of the survivors of the sinking of the “Sammy B” ship off the coast of the Philippines. Most of the crew survived, but had to swim in shark waters for 3 days. I should not have to tell you what my uncle and the other men witnessed and suffered in those 3 days. He was so traumatized, he lost his voice for a time.  Salvatore went on to become Chief Architect of Walt Disney World in Florida, influencing a generation of architects.  After seeing the absolute worst life could offer up, he dedicated himself to the creation of a fantasy paradise…also, a little-known story of American 20th-century history.

Back to D-Day, the largest sea invasion in history, here’s an article from yesterday, which includes video footage and a pep-talk by Eisenhower…

“By being able to get forces into Normandy, the Allies were able to begin their advance into northwest Europe. Though World War II lasted nearly another year in Europe, the success of Operation Overlord led to the liberation of France and allowed the Allies to fight the Germans in Nazi-occupied Europe. The US’ National World War II Museum says that a good way to appreciate the significance of D-Day is to imagine what would have happened if the operation had failed. According to the museum, another landing would have not been possible for at least a year. In this time, Hitler could have strengthened Nazi-occupied Europe’s coastal defenses, developed aircraft and weapons, bombed the UK even more heavily and continued his killing campaign.”

Let us pray for those who lost their lives on D-Day, on both the Allied and Axis sides, and for their families who suffered with so much grief…and for all the souls touched by that terrible war.  Let us pray for mercy for the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  Let us seek to console Our Lord’s Heart for these crimes.  Though this is said to have ended the war, we know as Catholics, civilians may never be targeted.  I would also like to remember my husband’s Uncle Harry, a young man killed in Germany in WWII.

As we approach Pentecost…

“Come Holy Ghost, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and kindle in them the fire of Thy love.  Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created.  And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.”

May peace reign in Holy Church and throughout the world!

"The Winners of the Future"

“The winners of the future are going to be those who can still concentrate, and have the patience to learn and absorb actual context in depth.  The losers are going to be the people blindly reacting, lacking any and all context…the powers that be want us to have no context. That's why when there are revolutions, the first thing the communists, the authoritarians, the socialists do, is they tear down the statues. They don't want you grounded in your past. They ruin the libraries. They get rid of the Christians. They basically upend and tear out all the history books and rewrite them because a people without context are people that are easily manipulated ”

The End of the Dollar as the World's Reserve Currency? What They Said Could Never Happen....

I like Andy Schectman and I also like Kitco News. Here, Andy is interviewed by Michelle Makori. The Petrodollar deal which Kissinger made with Saudi Arabia is discussed, along with Nixon’s departure from gold-backing and the world’s current moving away from the dollar. There’s a one-hour video and a short article…

End of the Petrodollar?

Excerpts from the article:

Saudi Arabia reportedly let the 50-year petro-dollar agreement expire on June 9th, opting to sell oil in multiple currencies instead of exclusively using the U.S. dollar. Andy Schectman, President and Owner of Miles Franklin Precious Metals, warns that if the "petro" is taken from the "dollar," the U.S. currency will be backed by "nothing," which could trigger "catastrophic" consequences…

The foundation of the petrodollar system lies in a 1974 agreement between Saudi Arabia and the United States. Under this deal, Saudi Arabia agreed to recycle its petrodollars into U.S. Treasuries in exchange for a security guarantee from the U.S., creating a strategic alliance that has significantly influenced global politics for decades. By 1975, all OPEC members had agreed to price oil in dollars and invest in U.S. government debt…

If the U.S. dollar is no longer the primary payment option for oil, Schectman foresees a massive spike in interest rates as one of the consequences, with the situation getting quite chaotic for the U.S.

“If this happened all at once, it would be catastrophic. It would be chaotic because the natural reaction of the dollar being dumped globally is hyperinflation. It would hit our shores in a tsunami of inflation,” Schectman said. “The dollar would collapse, the stock market would collapse, the bond market would collapse, the banking system would collapse, the insurance companies would collapse. Everything. This is the great reset.”

…The move away from using the U.S. dollar in international trade transactions is not new, but it has been accelerating…

One Rosary for Each WEF Conference Day!

[Edited since posting.]

Yes, it’s here again. January 15-19 in Davos-Klosters, Swizterland. Last year all the presentations were available online, so probably will be again. For those with blogs and other media, please review the presentations and get the info out. They are not hiding anything!

From the WEF website:

The 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum will provide a crucial space to focus on the fundamental principles driving trust, including transparency, consistency and accountability. This Annual Meeting will welcome over 100 governments, all major international organizations, 1000 Forum’s Partners, as well as civil society leaders, experts, youth representatives, social entrepreneurs, and news outlets.”

We have a “WEF Series” button to the right>>> There will be another post or 2 on this in the coming days.

Let us pray one Holy Rosary each day this week as these wicked people meet to plan the enslavement of all humanity and the persecution of the Church!

Do not believe their deceptions.

Think about it. What weaponry do you think these “elites” fear the most? Free speech? Free elections? Scientific data? Guns? Bombs? None of these. It is the Holy Rosary, the cord which binds Satan, they fear more than almost anything. Our Lady was given to us by Our Blessed Lord Himself from the Holy Cross. And she has given us the Rosary, particularly in these days of chastisement, as a weapon against evil, an antidote to our times. Our Lady of Fatima requested it be said daily. Not only because of its spiritual power when it is well-said by one in a State of Grace, but the peace that floods the soul with its recitation. And not only peace, but joy. Upon the recitation of the Holy Rosary our Mediatrix also gives us the graces we so much need to navigate this ever-devolving world, a world already unrecognizable to those who were born only a few decades ago.

In so many Catholic churches throughout the world, every day, there are several elderly women praying the Rosary. Are these humble, easily overlooked ladies the most powerful people in the world? Possibly. It was deeply saddening during the Covid lockdowns, when these unending prayers within the Holy of Holies suddenly ceased. You could almost feel this massive force for good being withdrawn from the earth and evil taking on more power. Are such days coming again? If the WEF has its say, you can bet on it.

The last day of the WEF conference is also the day of the March for Life in Washington DC. So many reasons to pray this great devotion, this meditation upon the Gospels! This Friday, the perpetrators of the shedding of innocent blood will be making their plans, as those defending the innocent will be marching by the tens of thousands. Our Lord and Our Lady look down upon it all. Which side do you wish to be counted among?

August, Month of the Immaculate Heart & Marian Triad of the Months

This month, we celebrate the Mother of God’s Immaculate and most loving Heart.  In June, we prayed for our hearts to be conformed to the Heart of Jesus, now we pray for the same grace regarding Our Lady.  Think about how you will honor her most pure heart during the month of August.

August also brings us the first month of what might be called the “Marian Triad of the Months.”  These are 3 months in a row, which Holy Church dedicates to Our Lady.  September honors Our Lady of Sorrows and October, the Holy Rosary.  It is an interesting theological pondering, to see how these 3 dedications might interrelate.  During this Triad would be a wonderful time to engage in Marian reading and devotions, to deepen your relationship with the Queen of Heaven.

As for some notable feasts this month, we have:  Saint Dominic, seer of the Holy Rosary, on the 4th and 8th (we look at both old and new feasts)…Our Lady of the Snows on the 5th…the Transfiguration of Our Lord, one of the Luminous Mysteries, on the 6th…Santa Chiara (Clare) on the 11th and 12th…the Vigil of the Assumption on the 14th and the Assumption, Holy Day of Obligation on the 15th…Saint Joachim, father of Mary, the very next day, the 16th…on the 22nd, a double Marian feast, the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin and the traditional celebration of the Immaculate Heart…we honor 2 patron saints of gardening on the same day, Saint Rose of Lima and Saint Fiacre, on the 30th…the Passion of Saint John the Baptist on the 29th.

Here is the Roman Catholic traditional calendar for the month of August:  Calefactory
